Culhwch was born in Camelot, but his parents soon fled and raised him in a forest for reasons unknown to him. As a boy, he loved going into the woods, studying the wildlife, and helping his father hunt with a bow. He was a prodigy at surviving in the forest, and his skills with the bow soon surpassed his father. One day however after hunting a deer to bring back home, he came back to his house in ruins. The charred corpses of his parents lay on the scorching ruins of what used to be his home. An anger like no other enveloped Culhwch. He began tracking what destroyed his home and found that it was a demonic creature who had left the Hellgate. Using his skills with the bow and his experience in foresting, he slew the beast with skill and finesse. When the druids saw what he had done, they offered to recruit him. With no other family or purpose, he joined them and became a fearsome ranger.
