Bourgard was the former executioner of King Uther. When his King died, he secretly retired with his son, but Morgana found and captured him. She forced him to slay his own son, so he blamed his own existence and begged the Death Spirits for a chance to revenge before committing suicide inside his jail... and then, his undead body awakened, full of strength and rage!
After slicing many of Morgana´s soldiers, Bourgard entered Broceliande for carnage, but Merlin and the Paladin Valamir were able to stop him before doing further harm. Then, they had to trap the executioner´s unbreakable undead body inside Archmage Ragnall´s Cove, the only place capable of keeping his threat at bay.
